With the new brand of Ubuntu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Brand) There had been talk about variants also changing their branding. Today the Kubuntu group sat down and talked about that very thing.
The idea was to see push a test run to see what the opinion of the Kubuntu users were going to be. There was a list of possible ideas and after discussions the decision came out.
The new look of the Kubuntu Brand will be shipped with Kubuntu 10.04 Beta2 for a test run.
